Post by Martin Goldstraw » Fri Jul 17, 2015 2:05 pm

The Armorial Register has learned today of the death of Barry George Harden of Cowdenknowes, umquhile Baron of Cowdenknowes. July 1945 - July 2015.

Barry had been a good friend of John and me back in the early part of the 21st century and we had all attended and enjoyed a number of functions in Edinburgh together. Although he was something of a lovable rogue whose life choices sometimes left his son and heir frustrated to say the least, we missed him when he decided to make his home permanently in the USA sometime in 2005; since then we have rarely been in touch, the last time being a short Facebook conversation in January 2013.

Barry passed the barony to his son Mark in a private conveyance in 2006 when he ceased to use the baronial additaments of a chapeau Gules, doubled Ermine, baronial cloak, badge and standard and reverted to the simple display of arms as illustrated above.

Always terrible to lose a friend. I am sure his legacy, armorial, and memories at least will succeed him.
Kindest regards,
