Horatio Nelson's Hatchment
Nelson's funeral hatchment is displayed at his parish church of St Mary the Virgin, Merton, near the end of the north aisle. It uses the last version of his arms, which includes representations of his 4 orders of knighthood.

Horatio Nelson's final armorial achievement, drawn by George Nayler as Blane Coursier Herald and Genealogist of the Order of the Bath, English College of Arms, 16 March 1804.

Back in November 2016 I had a meeting with the Chairman of Lloyd's of London. Outside his office is the framed Grant of Augmentations to Horatio Baron Nelson of the Nile dated 20th December 1798. It is part of The Nelson Collection



A Chief undulated Argent thereon Waves of the Sea from which a Palm Tree issuant between a disabled Ship on the dexter and a ruinous Battery on the sinister all proper. And for his Crest On a Naval Crown Or the Chelengk or Plume of Triumph presented to him by the Grand Signor with the motto Palmam qui mernit ferat
And to his supporters being a Sailor on the dexter and a lion on the sinister the herewith augmentations following viz In the left hand of the Sailor a Palm Branch and another in the Paw of the Lion both proper with the addition of a tri-coloured Flag and Staff in the mouth of the latter
