In thought this was making good use of arms on this Food Hygiene booklet from The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland. I for one had not seen these before.

Anyone fancy their hand at the blazon?!

On doing a wee search I just noticed that they also use the arms in "black and white" which although this is often done, I would suggest the way they have done it is incorrect.



They have also gone to the trouble and expense to have them trademarked in "black and white" but look different to the granted version, It all seems a tad strange to me!

Incorrect in that the field should be black and the "pots" and thistle white? That would make the black flamingo largely invisible.

At least the lion and unicorn look something like they should. When I worked in the FCO's Information Department back in the 1980s, design consultants were brought in to "modernise" the arms. The result was a lion and a unicorn that looked as though they had been crossed with greyhounds, or half-starved. Fortunately there were several of us who stood up for heraldry and had the starving animals put to sleep. Heaven preserve heraldry from design consultants!

We have lots of cranes around here in the warmer months, and I have never seen one whose neck and head arches backwards from its body. Flamingoes do.
