Aberchirder Community Council
I thought this might be interesting as Aberchirder, the nearest village to The Armorial Register Ltd main office in Scotland, was granted a coat of arms in 1999. The village was originally named Foggieloan (Sleepy Town) and was founded in 1764 by Alexander Gordon, the laird of Auchintoul. Gordon called the village Aberchirder after the thanes of Aberkerdour who lived at Kinnairdy Castle on the River Deveron in the 13th Century. However, the popular name of Foggieloan is still used by locals and the surrounding area to this day and is often shortened to Foggie and the old name has been incorporated in the motto of the coat of arms 'AYE FOGGIELOAN'. To read more about the arms please follow this link http://www.foggieloan.co.uk/42arms/coat_of_arms.htm
