Echoing comments in FB -- nice design, but a disconnect between blazon of a stag's head cabosshed (no neck showing) and an image of a stag's head and neck, like a hunting trophy. Either way should be fine but blazon and image should match. Also would likely look better on a narrower shield with less empty space in chief and base - heraldically the same but artistically better, at least in my mind's eye.

For sure it is not the best rendition of arms but he is new to heraldry and this may change Michael.

Yes; as noted, a basically sound design once he decides what version of the stag's head he really wants in chief.

(FWIW, unless there is some special personal significance of the "taxidermist's trophy" as drawn, I think I'd prefer cabosshed as in the blazon, but that's not my call!)

The artwork is really secondary since any number of good heraldic artists could work their magic!

The blazon has been corrected to Argent, a fess ragully Azure between in chief a buck’s head couped affronte and in base a chess rook Sable.

Whilst this more accurately reflects the fact that the image is one of a Buck with a neck, it remains unfortunate that this particular depiction does indeed resemble a hunting trophy ... but perhaps it is indeed deliberate.
