Now that you have your petition into Lyon Office Davie, when are the folks on this forum going to see a rendition of your arms. :lol:

Proposed blazon;

Shield - Sable, a Chevron Argent between in chief 2 Gilly flowers, and in base a Chrysanthemum Vert fimbriated Or.

Crest - A Leopard Sejant Rampant proper grasping with the fore paws a weaver’s Ell-Wand Sable.

Motto – By Skill and Honour. Latin translation in the crest may be incorrect as this is being done by the Lyon Court.

I will explain the design elements of my proposed arms. My wife's maiden name is Cooper and we have a rendition of the arms which has the same layout (a chevron with 3 charges) this was the basis for my layout.

The base colours of black & white were chosen as a reminder of my 30 years as a Martial Artist in that we wear a white Karate suit with a Black belt and in Iaido we wear a black top, black hakima and we are identified by our name and club which is embroidered on our top in white Japanese characters.

The charges, 2 Gilly flowers and a Chrysanthemum, the Gilly flowers were taken from the Livingston Development Corporation arms in a reference to where I stay, being Livingston. The chrysanthemum is another reference to my martial arts and also for my love of all things Japanese, including a brand of motorcycle manufacturer whose bikes I ride, their colour scheme is usually green, white and black. The green (Vert) is also a reference to having traced my family back to Ireland. The fimbriation was necessary due to the rules of heraldry, having to place a metal between 2 cloths.
That about covers the design of the shield.

The crest for me was the hardest part to design, as there were so many things I wanted to include when designing arms. In the end I chose a leopard grasping a weaver’s ell wand in its fore paws. The main reason for this was my family were weavers in Glasgow also in Lanark and earlier back in Ireland, and that a leopards head is a charge on the Incorporation of Weavers arms from Glasgow which has been in existence from 1514 – 1905 again as above the same shield layout a chevron and 3 charges.

The motto is another reference to my martial arts, by skill and honour, which has dominated most of my life.
