Civic arms on the web

Post by Lucas Garczewski » Mon Jul 22, 2013 4:51 am

I'm preparing a little guerrilla project to promote the arms of my city, Poznan, Poland. The municipal government isn't too keen on using arms, and my way of making sure they are not forgotten entirely is to setup a detailed webpage dedicated to the city's arms.

Here's my question: have you seen any good examples of such pages, run by both official authorities and amateurs? I'm looking for inspiration on how to present the information and what to include.

What I have so far:
  • the city's arms
  • usage (how to use, when to use, permissions needed)
  • the flag (in this case: a white flag charged with the arms)
  • arms of the mayors of Poznan
  • arms of the bishops of Poznan
  • the Leliwa arms, a component (one of the sources?) of the city's arms
  • arms of the Poznan powiat (larger administrative area surrounding the city, roughly equivalent to a county)
  • arms photo gallery
Other ideas welcome.

This seems like a worthwhile project to have on Wiki should speak to Chas regarding Wiki projects.

John, if by "Wiki" you mean Wikipedia, as a long-time (retired) Wikipedia I feel obliged to point out that you should not abbreviate Wikipedia as Wiki. ;)

More to the point, I'd like to make this a traditional web page, since I hope it will be absorbed into the municipal government's website or at least linked to from their official pages in the near future. Which I imagine they would not or indeed could not do with a wiki-type setup.

That's the ultimate goal, in any case. Keep your fingers crossed.
