Re: Hamilton Vs Lyon

I have no doubt that there will be some disappointment however, I suspect that the result will be that many foreign barons (a large percentage appear to be from the USA) will now consider that it isn't worth troubling Lyon for a grant of arms when they can simply assume them anyway. It is my belief...

Re: College of Arms: Probationary Officer of Arms

Regrettably, my lack of a degree is a "showstopper". Having used the expression "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" to my adult children* in recent months they took delight in repeating it to me. So I was honour bound to enquire and duly received the anticipated reply. Furthermore, the College...

Re: Horatio Nelson's Hatchment

Back in November 2016 I had a meeting with the Chairman of Lloyd's of London. Outside his office is the framed Grant of Augmentations to Horatio Baron Nelson of the Nile dated 20th December 1798. It is part of The Nelson Collection https://heraldryonline.files.wordpress.com/2019/09/20161108_150004.j...

Does that mean we may have missed an opportunity to obtain Supporters without a Peerage or becoming a Knight Grand Cross?

College of Arms: Probationary Officer of Arms

I suppose there are all sorts of copyright issues, let alone technical ones to prevent a copy of the HSS forum being "archived" here?

Re: Robert Taylor Koehler No. 0412

Before Christmas I was discussing with my first TA Company Commander my petition for a heraldic badge. He suggested a Pascal Lamb as a nod to the The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment (aka The Mutton Lancers) which was one of founding Regiments of The Queen's Regiment (now in turn part of the PWRR). I w...

Online Heraldic Resources

I have unashamedly snaffled a post made by James Dempster back in January 2009 at the American Heraldry Society's forum. James provided a list of and links to various heraldry books that have been scanned and made available online. I have managed to add a couple more. The list is at: Online Heraldic...

Geeting better at imaging

I am always in awe of those who can produce achievements with pen & paint. I am very dependent upon the manipulation of clipart. However, with a new version of Serif DrawPlus it is making things much easier for me. One of the things I had wanted to produce was my own version of my Arms. The limitati...

At the weekend we made a family visit to Edington, Wiltshire. A few pictures I took in the church can be seen in a slide show below.

Heraldic Business/Calling Cards

On Monday I managed to attend my first heraldic society event! :D  :D Namely, the AGM and reception of The White Lion Society at the St Benet's church and then at the College of Arms. One of the gentlemen (probably an Esquire actually :D ) had some business/calling cards sporting his Arms. I ...

St Mary Aldermary, City of London

On Tuesday I had cause to go up to London for a meeting/lunch. Beforehand I had time to peruse a couple of churches within the City of London. I was able to take a few photographs in one of them, St Mary Aldermary . http://www.heraldry-online.org.uk/aldermary/aldermary.htm I have yet to work upon fo...
