Or even better said - Gules is most of the time implied both Metal and Colour at the same time in some continental heraldries.

I can't see the arms in question.

I also dislike "Proper" and have been quite befittingly rewarded with two things Proper on my shield. Central European heraldry, eh.

Yes, we talked about stronger crests and surprisingly small shields in comparison to the helmets. Most new armigers find this very hard to swallow.
