The Arms of Joseph Uphoff

The armiger is the author of several articles in the fields of history, numismatics, and genealogy and holds the degree of Bachelor of arts (History) awarded by the University of San Diego. His primary interest is Oriental cultures, particularly China. He is a member of the Augustan Society, and currently serves on its Board of Directors.

The dragon represents the armigerís interest in Chinese culture. The yin/yang symbol represents balance, a goal of much of Oriental philosophy. The octagon symbolises the Buddhist eight-fold path and the motto reflects the Buddhist concept that this reality is impermanent.
