The Arms of Brian Matthew McClurg

Ancestors who bore these arms: Armiger's father: Timothy Michael McClurg, Madison, WI . Grandfather: Frederick Henry McClurg (1924-1994) Erie, PA.

The ravens transfixed refer to a Scottish story in which a widow's sons by three different men performed archery to show prowess with weapons for Robert the Bruce while he was on the run from the English. The brother's names were Murdoch, McKie and McClurg. The brothers joined The Bruce's army until he became Robert I, King of Scotland.

The fouled anchor is representative of the armiger's grandfather’s service in the US Navy and promotion to Chief Petty Officer. The crest was developed by the armiger to honor his parents – The Crosses represent Timothy (Greek - Honoring God) and Rhonda (Welsh - Good Spear). The Opals are the birthstone of Timothy, Rhonda, and Brian. The full meaning of the crest is Brian Issuing from Timothy and Rhonda.

Mr. McClurg was born in Tippacanoe County, IN while his father was earning his Doctoral Degree from Purdue University. He has spent most of his life in Madison, WI . Mr. McClurg has earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

The arms were designed with the gracious assistance of the IAAH. They are emblazoned by Ljubodrag Grujic.
