The Arms of Alban Philip Becker

Emblazon by Ljubodrag Gruijic.

The arms are designed in memory of Alban Philip Becker by his descendants in collaboration with the membership of the American Heraldry Society (AHS) on the occasion of the Becker Family Reunion and the 100th anniversary of his marriage for use by Alban P. Becker’s descendants.

The arms are canting: The baker’s peels represent the name Becker, originally Bäcker, meaning baker in German. The baker’s peels are in saltire and gold on a blue background which is reflective of Saint Alban’s cross. The full cant is the name of the armiger, Alban Becker. The loaf stands for the bread of life and the pretzel represents the German ancestry of the armiger. The chief represents Lake Erie north of the armiger’s lifelong home in Erie, PA.

The crest includes a barrel which represents the armiger’s grandfather, Peter Bäcker (1826-1882) who was a cooper and immigrated from Luxemburg to Erie, PA. Erie, PA is represented by the raccoon which was called “erie” by the native people in the area. The concord grape is a primary agricultural product of Erie County, PA.
