The Arms of Steen Stavnsbo

The tinctures within the arms represent Denmark. The vessel (or rowing boat) represents the name Stavnsbo. The first part of the name, meaning “Fore” is a reference to the ancient Stavnbo`s of the Saga’s and the second part of the name “Bo” meaning Dweller/Occupant etc. Thus the name of “Stavnsbo” (Norwegian: Stavnbo & Swedish: Stambo).

Mentioned in “Sorli's Tale, or The Saga of Hedin & Hogni”, “Skallegrims Saga”, “The Saga of Half and His Heroes” and in “Orkneyinga Saga”, where the first Earl of Orkney is introduced as being a Stavnsbo to King Harald Fairhair. In English, Stavnsbo is translated as “Forecastleman”. According to “Skallegrim`s saga”, the Stavnsbo´s (Forecastlemen) were the strongest and most seasoned warriors, who occupied the place of honour, the forecastle, in battle. The Boars represent strength “Forte” as in the motto and the ancient Stavnsbo´s of “Skallegrim´s saga”. The  chevron represents the armiger's maternal ancestry. The motto: “In

The Banner of Steen Stavnsbo

Forte” “In/with Strength” is a reminder to remain strong in our beliefs.

The Armiger is of the Danish Stavnsbo family, in Australia. The place name “Stavnsbo” exists in three places, the earliest known record being 1667. The earliest known recorded person bearing the name is Marie Rosalie Stavnsbo who, in 1790, lived at Gothersgade no. 12, Copenhagen. However there is no known link between the Armiger and Marie Rosalie Stavnsbo or the place names.

Brother: Finn Stavnsbo 0092
