The Arms of Neil C Thompson

The red Chinese dragon represents the Armigerís strong connection with the island of Taiwan. The Armiger worked as a Consultant on the Taiwan High-Speed Railway project before and after the railwayís entry into service in 2007. The Armiger was born in the year of the Wood Dragon in the Chinese zodiac.

The green pale is a reference to the Armigerís Irish ancestry and Irish citizenship acquired in 2017 through a grandparent from Killiney, County Dublin. The quill pen is a reference to the Armigerís work as a technical writer as well as ancestors who worked as Legal Clerks in the City of London in the 19th century.

The Wiltshire Horn Ram represents a line of the Armigerís ancestors who lived on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire during the 18th and 19th centuries and worked as Shepherds. The Wiltshire Horn is a native lowland breed favoured for its hardiness and short wool coat which sheds naturally in spring without the need for shearing. The oak leaf and acorn wreath around the ramís neck represents the ancient oaks in the New Forest, Hampshire where the Armiger grew up.
The Badge of Neil C Thompson

The railwaymanís oil lantern is an acknowledgement of the Armigerís 25-year career in the railway industry as well as many British and Irish ancestors who have worked on the railways, one of whom tragically lost his life in an accident at Westland Row Station in Dublin in 1926. The gardening spade represents the Armigerís love of gardening and ancestors who worked in domestic service as gardeners.

The motto Adapt or Perish is a quote from the Victorian science fiction writer HG Wells who lived in the Armigerís adopted home town. It refers to the importance of moving with the times, embracing change and keeping up to date with technological advances in this fast-changing world.

Badge and Standard Rendition by Dr Antonio Salmeron Cabanas.
